The other open Toastrack or Summer tramcar is behind this tram, with other California Combination cars on the sides. The trams have yet to be fitted with wheels or equipment, including headlights. Note the front dash panel has been painted, but no headlight opening or cut out. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption (all in caps) "Summer Traffic Car: to be used in trips to and from the Gardens. It is without sides, and has reversible backs. Ballarat Electric Tram Service". See Reg. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Also shows telegraph poles along the north side of Sturt St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Postcard dated 22 Dec. 1904 See Reg Item 2437.1, 2437.2 for original postcards held within the collection. See 836i3. Negative No. N391 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat tram No. 34 about to cross Grenville St from Sturt St into Bridge St. Photo has the driver setting the route to control the tram signals for Mt. Pleasant. Photo has the buildings along the north side of Sturt St in the photograph. Date of photo on folder - 5/9/1959, but this is incorrect, as the tram has been fitted with dash canopy lights and tiger stripes, post 1961. Folder and negative could have been mixed up. Original negative rescanned 24/5/2020 and image file updated. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat Vic" along the bottom edge. 2437.1 - On the bottom of the postcard is a two line hand written message. On rear of postcard is the address to a Miss C. Haurley of 4 Mortuary Road, South Shields England and two Victorian stamps - half penny (green) and one penny (red) stamps. Has been postmarked "North Melbourne Vic.
